On May 25th, 2020, George Floyd was murdered by Derek Chauvin, alongside his fellow colleagues within the Minneapolis Police Department. Since this event, protests and riots have sparked all over the country in awareness for George Floyd, amongst many other innocent black lives that were lost.
I am using my platform to raise awareness for the Black Lives Matter movement. This post will feature various ways that you can help with this ongoing movement whether you are black or not. I encourage everybody to take a moment to learn, reflect, and change in these tough times.
SIGN PETITIONS: With the help from others, we are able to share petitions in hopes for change. This link highlights tons of petitions that are currently collecting signatures and I would love to see your name too! https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/#petitions
DONATE: There are tons of fundraisers in wake of George Floyd's death and it warms my heart to see most goals being met. I chose to donate to a fundraiser held by Aja Taylor in honor of her brother, Aaron James Sutton, who was killed before protesting in Baltimore. Here is the link to support Aja and her brother, Aaron: https://www.gofundme.com/f/rest-in-peace-aaron-quotajquot-sutton
SUPPORT BLACK OWNED BUSINESSES: During this time, it is so so SO important to support black owned businesses if you haven't already! This could be a simple repost of their Instagram, purchasing an item, leaving a donation, or sharing their links!
You are also soooooo welcome to go out and PROTEST in your local areas! If you decide to, please educate yourself on how to stay protected while you are there! This link will also help you: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/#protesters
George Floyd will be very deeply missed by many, and from this moment, things need to change. Help me and my fellow black lives tell the stories of those who were lost and make a difference.
